Apple Charlotte Recipe

Ingredients: Serves 4-5

450 g/1 lb cooking (tart) apples
75 g/3 oz demerara or light brown sugar
5 slices of bread
75 g/3 oz butter or margarine, melted

Method:

Peel, core and slice the apples and mix with 50 g/2 oz/0.25 cup of the sugar. Cut four of the slices of bread into triangles and dip in the melted butter. Use to line a 1 liter/1.75 pt/4.25 cup ovenproof dish. Fill with the apple slices and sugar. Dice the remaining bread and toss in the remaining butter. Scatter over the top and sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Cook in a preheated oven at 180C/350F/gas mark 4 for about 40 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
