Warming Autumn Crumble Recipe

Ingredients: Serves 4

100 g/4 oz wholemeal flour

50 g/2 oz margarine, diced

100 g/4 oz light brown sugar
25 g/1 oz flaked (slivered) almonds

225 g/8 oz plums, quartered and stoned (pitted)
450 g/1 lb cooking (tart) apples, sliced

Grated rind and juice of 1 small orange

Classic Custard Sauce to serve

Method:

Put the flour in a bowl. Add the margarine and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in half the sugar. Mix the almonds with the plums, apples and orange rind and juice. Stir in the remaining sugar. Turn into a 1.2 liter/ 2 pt/5 cup ovenproof dish. Sprinkle the crumble over and press down lightly. Bake in a preheated oven at 190C/ 375F/gas mark 5 for about 45 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Serve hot with Classic Custard Sauce.
